Château de Saulières

Bourgogne, France

ongoing

Two castles from different eras adorn a magnificent property overlooking the woody hills of Morvan.

The renovation project focuses on the more recent castle that was built during the XVIIIth century and has since known very little modifications save for a few wallpapers and moldings. This architectural masterpiece is organised around a Palladian-inspired square plan and is a wonder in its layout, motifs and ornaments.

The aim of the project is to subtly bring modernity to this space by fitting in all the necessary amenities as well as making the rooms lighter and more welcoming by eliminating the weathered decors. This means a careful approach to capture the essence of the house and manifest it in a way that is true to the original and yet contemporary.

The renovation program includes numerous suites, kitchens, roman baths, a reception hall, a grand library, living rooms and dining rooms as well as the renovation of the park that includes fountains, a theatre, a labyrinth, a temple and all that constitutes a rare example of an oeuvre totale.
